Well we had a very quiet new year. Still recovering from shearing.
We were fortunate to get a contract harvester in at the last moment, so our harvesting took two and a half days instead of two weeks. We only have a small oat crop and small harvester so it made sense to get someone else in to do the job.
The weather has cooled down a bit too. I worked Caleb this morning and he was very full on, just wanted to race around the sheep, slicing them across the top. So I had to stop him a few times and as soon as he settled he went well. I also worked on getting him to move farther off the sheep and that went well too. He thinks he if he can run faster he can slice in before I get there, but once I got into position and he knew I could control him, he worked quite wide.
Angel had a run around yesterday, just balancing up. She is much more immature in her work and I will not be putting too much pressure on her for a while yet.
The trials are looming so I must be putting some polish on Rio and Lara and get Driftz going again soon. I have to admit to being a bit lazy when it comes to finishing my dogs, I get them to a point and don't do the finishing touches required for the trial ground, so must make an effort this year.
Maybe tomorrow. |
